It is envisaged that the North Quays will be complete by 2022.  The following timelines set out key milestones achieved in 2018 /19, with links to associated documentation.

  • February 2018 – Making of the Strategic Development Zone Planning Scheme
  • July 2018 – Public consultation for the Sustainable Transport Bridge
  • October 2018 – Confirmation of Compulsory Purchase Order authorising compulsory acquisition of lands and entitled Waterford City and County Council, North Quays Development, Waterford CPO 2017 (No. 1).
  • November 2018 – Waterford City Council awarded €1.75 million funding under the Sustainable Transport Management Grant for 2018 and €6 million funding under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund for 2019.
  • December 2018 – Part 10 application submitted to An Bord Pleanála for River Suir Sustainable Transport Bridge.  Includes an Environmental Impact Assessment Report and Natura Impact Statement.
  • January 2019 – Council members resolved to proceed with the development as per the amendments and recommendations for the SDZ Access and Public Road Infrastructure, Rock Face Stabilisation and Railway Protection Works as Chief Executive’s Report.
  • September 2019 – Part 10 application approved by An Bord Pleanála for River Suir Sustainable Transport Bridge (link to decision).  Includes an Environmental Impact Assessment Report and Natura Impact Statement.
  • September 2019 – Council members resolve to proceed with the Part 8 development for the Transport Hub, Ferrybank, as per the recommendations in the Chief Executive’s Report.
  • December 2019 – Falcon Real Estate Development Ireland Limited submitted planning application, seeking permission to construct a mixed use development on the 8 hectare North Quays Strategic Development Zone.  The application is available to review at http://www.eplanning.ie/WaterfordCCC/AppFileRefDetails/19928/0.
  • May 2020 – Enabling Works commenced on site, the Utility Diversion Works Contract is currently on site and a Demolition Contract is due to commence In late July / early August 2020.
  • July 2020 – Falcon Real Estate Development Ireland Limited was granted planning permission by Waterford City and County Council for almost 130,000 sq m of development within the Waterford North Quays Strategic Development Zone, comprising mixed use commercial building for tourism, retail, food & beverage and leisure, 15,000 sq m of office space, five residential buildings with 300 riverside apartments, 220-room 4-star hotel and conference centre, public open space, public realm and greenway connectivity.
  • September 2020 – The South East Greenway Connectivity works contract will be issued on eTenders.
  • Q2 2021 – Main Contract Works to commence on site for the Sustainable Transport Bridge, SDZ Access Infrastructure and Transport Hub.
  • It is envisaged that by Q1 2023 works will be complete on the key elements of the project.
